Electrification: So how many people are we actually talking about?

In assessing the un-electrified market, it is important to not only know the percentages but to also know how many people, in absolute terms, don’t have access to electricity. The figures in terms of percentages can be found here.

No. of people

Of the 635 million in Africa, 634 million of the people without electricity are in Sub Saharan Africa.

The map below extracted from the IEA’s 2014 Africa Energy Outlook shows how many of these people are in each country(in millions).
